Explore tourism careers is an interactive online presentation that provides teachers, career counsellors and
students with an overview of the career opportunities available in the tourism sector in
Saskatchewan.
The presentation explores four areas that answer students' and teachers' most-asked questions about building
a
successful tourism career:

service training and life-long transferable skills. This certificate looks great on a resume and with

Saskatchewan students can enrol in a wide selection of post-secondary education and
training to prepare them for careers in tourism. Here are some of the institutions where training is
available:
Saskatchewan has more than 1,200 hotels, motels, bed and breakfast and campground accommodations throughout
the province. Jobs available to those interested in the accommodation industry are varied and diverse. Jobs
range from those in large full-service and accommodation-only hotels and motels in many communities to small
bed and breakfasts, campgrounds and lodges in remote communities.
Examples: Lodge Owner/Manager, Campgroup Operator, Bed and Breakfast Operator, Room Attendant, Front Desk Agent
Food and Beverage Services includes restaurants, bars, coffee shops, food trucks...basically anywhere you can
get food. This industry is a major employer of youth, which provides an excellent training ground for people
who are beginning their careers.
Examples: Executive Chef, Bartender, Catering Manager, Food and Beverage Server
Recreation and Entertainment is one of the most diverse industries, covering everything from outdoor adventure
to live events. It is also one of the fastest growing service industries. Careers in recreation and
entertainment provide opportunities for people who enjoy sharing their knowledge of local culture and their
love of the outdoors.
Examples: Fishing and Hunting Guide, Recreation Coordinator, Tour Guide, Outfitter Operator, Conservation Officer
Transportation is an essential part of tourism, which includes airlines, train, taxi and bus services. This
industry includes all businesses involved in moving people from one place to another.
People working in Travel Services help visitors make decisions about what to see and do in a community. They
also help coordinate travel to other destinations. Travel services include organizations that specialize in
serving the needs of the tourism industry, as well as businesses that provide direct services to visitors.
These include government agencies, marketing organizations and tourism educators.
